Ignored Fawad Alam to cheer for Pakistan team from home

Sarfaraz Ahmed, Azhar Ali, Sami Aslam, Haris Sohail, Babar Azam, Fakhar Zaman, Inam-ul-Haq, Asad Shafiq, Usman Salahuddin, Shadab Khan, Muhammad Amir, Muhammad Abbas, Saad Ali, Hasan Ali, Faheem Ashraf and Rahat Ali.

The five uncapped players that have been selected for the England and Ireland test series include openers Fakhar Zaman, and Imam-ul-Haq, Batsmen Usman Salahuddin, Saad Ali, and all rounder Faheem Ashraf. His average from 145 games is 55.3 which comfortably the best in Pakistan's recent history.

Fawad Alam, son of Pakistan's famous first-class cricketer Tariq Alam, made an early start to his first-class career at the young age of 17, he also played in the under 19 world cup for Pakistan. "This is a great opportunity for us, particularly our batsmen, to gain experience in this conditions", he added. Attempting to make up for his absence will be Shadab Khan, who has played a solitary Test, against the Windies a year ago.

Spinner Shadab Khan has also been chosen to replace the injured Yasir Shah, who is set to miss the tour with a hip problem.

Chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq said: "Yasir's absence is a big loss for us". When chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq was asked about Fawad's exclusion from the side, he couldn't justify it and said that 16 players had to be selected out of 25 called for the training camp.

Mohammad Amir will lead the pace attack, for which Rahat Ali was recalled, but there was no place for Wahab Riaz. He was our strike bowler, all the games we've won he played a big part in.

Sarfraz Ahmed, the captain, is the only specialist wicketkeeper in the squad.

Pakistan will a Test against Ireland, which will the European side's first ever game in the longest format, in Malahide from 11-15 May. Pakistan will then play two Tests against England - at Lord's (May 24-28) and Headingley (June 1-5).
