He will replace the retiring Eric Herman, who has served the school district as superintendent for the past 8 years.

However, the most recent state budget went a step further in increasing teacher contracts by allowing school districts the option of now extending multi-year contracts of up to four years to teachers under certain circumstances.

The trustees also approved contracts for construction on the parking lots at Davila Middle School and Rudder High School and for roof replacement and repairs at Navarro Elementary School, Jane Long Intermediate School and Sam Rayburn Intermediate School. Rogers said that all existing security cameras are being upgraded and, by September, the district will have cameras on every door, playground and pickup and dropoff area. McIlroy said she is a people person and wants to build relationships with people who trust her.

The superintendent search began following the resignation of Tom Burris, who stepped down after five years, citing his eligibility for retirement and his desire to spend more time with his children.

The Harrisburg School Board went into Monday night's meeting looking for a new superintendent, but they left deciding to keep their current top educator.

Connie Lovell, chair of the School-College Bond Committee to garner public support for the bonds, told the board that the "YES campaign" is gaining momentum in fundraising, ramping up its advertising campaign and making volunteers available to speak at group meetings.

When asked how she would vote on motions to remove Carpenter as the board's president or from the board completely, Dachtler said she couldn't make that decision at the moment.

Piper received her bachelor's degree in secondary education from Wright State University in 1997 and his master's degree in education leadership from Wright State University in 2003.
