The next-generation Xperia smartphones sported an all-new design, 18:9 display with nearly no bezels on the side, support for wireless charging, and 4K HDR video recording - a first for a smartphone. However, Sony has included a monochrome sensor on the Xperia XZ2 Premium to capture more light and use the Aube Fusion ISP to produce noiseless images even in completely dark environments.

At present, a specific release date and pricing has not yet been made available but the smartphone will hit the market sometime from summer 2018.

Xperia XZ2 Premium's cutting-edge technology is packed into a fluid and elegant design. The screen might be featured in the 16:9 aspect ratio and not the 18:9 screens that we are so used to seeing, but there is also a reason for that and you will soon be finding out why. Other highlights include S-Force Front Surround sound through the front-facing speakers, Hi-res Audio, LDAC, and DSHEE HX. It also comes with a Snapdragon 845 SoC and Android 8.0 Oreo. In terms of camera, the Sony Xperia XZ2 Premium has a Motion Eye Dual camera setup of 19MP with a 1/2.3-inch Exmor RS sensor, 1.22-micron pixels, and an f/1.8 aperture, coupled with a 12MP black and white camera with the same Exmor RS sensor, 1.55-micron pixels, and an f/1.6 aperture. However, the Sony cameras allow you to a achieve a maximum 51,2000 ISO level for still images, and 12,800 ISO for videos. There's a bright live view-finder so you can see the picture before capture. At the moment, Huawei's P20 Pro has the highest ISO of 102400 for photos but that's only available later via a software update. The display of the smartphone is a 5.6-inch 4K HDR unit that promises 11% more viewable area and 30% more brightness than previous Sony 4K HDR offerings. "The front camera on the XZ2 Premium is also high-end with a 13MP 1/3.06" low-light sensor and display flash for better selfies in any light. The battery has a capacity of 3450 mAh and supports Qi wireless charging and Quick Charge 3.0.

While the Xperia XZ2 comes with 4 GB RAM, the Xperia XZ2 Premium comes with 6 GB of RAM. Of course, since there are twin lenses, the Xperia X2 Premium also has the usual faux-bokeh mode for portraits.
