Mourinho admits United lacked 'fluidity' during West Brom defeat

United's loss to West Brom hands City the title, and after the match Mourinho gave his reaction to this development; one that has been a very long time.

The Red Devils were aware that if they beat the Baggies on Sunday, they would once again have delayed the Citizens' title celebrations for one more week, but this was not to be as Jay Rodriguez popped up with a 73rd-minute header to clinch the game for the relegation strugglers.

"They won because they were the best team, they lost only a few points".

Mourinho was equally elated over the Pogba Manchester derby performance, and speaking to The Telegraph he gave an insight into the coaching of the £89 million man and what he told him after the win. During the week I was trying to fight that because I was feeling it'.

Their squad is crammed full of wonderfully potent performers such as Juan Mata, Paul Pogba, Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez, yet the Premier League table, which shows them 16 points behind City, does not lie.

Even so, he is still managing to outperform Pogba in a number of key metrics over the Premier League season.

After the match, Mourinho made it clear he was unimpressed with his players' efforts, lack of fluidity and desire.

But I expect you to be consistent, ' Mourinho said. I think in my experience you don't win titles with inconsistency, you win titles, of course, with quality, without quality you have no chance, but you win titles with consistency at every level.

"Eight titles are eight titles and three Premier Leagues are three Premier Leagues". You have to be consistent at every level, not just the performance level.

"We didn't want or played simple, everything was slow, one more flick, trick, turn".

The first half was a bad advert for the English top-flight.

"West Brom outworked them; they wanted to go out and hurt them".
