Mehbooba accepts resignation of BJP ministers

Ganga and his cabinet colleague Lal Singh were at the centre of a storm over their participation in a rally in support of the accused in the Kathua rape and murder case.

Both Singh and Ganga have denied they resigned under pressure which was endorsed by Madhav who also ruled out any threat to the PDP-BJP coalition in the aftermath of the move as the two partners were working "with great understanding and in close cooperation". The agency will not indulge in any wrongdoing.

He said the resignation letters were now being forwarded to Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti. Shashi Singh, 52, was questioned at the CBI's Lucknow office before her arrest. "The youth here have given enough indication of their anger and discontent over the past several years, even while they gave a chance for democracy to play itself out", she said. Three FIRs have been filed by the Uttar Pradesh Police in the case.

The MLA said he will openly sit with the people protesting in demand of transferring of case to the CBI, adding, "What is wrong in it?" While a section of BJP leaders favour the CBI probe in reciprocation to the demand from "some Hindus of Jammu", others maintain this could discredit their government.

"When our policemen are killed fighting militants in Kashmir and when they kill militants, the same people call them patriots".

Singh slammed Mehbooba Mufti, asserting that as the Chief Minister and In-charge Home she should morally quit first from the chair. If someone is hurt because of me, I have no right to remain in that post, that is why I resigned.

A much-relieved Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for defusing the situation and said the unfortunate incident had brought the people of the state and the rest of the country "together". On March 1, addressing a rally of Hindu Ekta Manch in Hiranagar, Ganga had hit out at Kathua SSP for arresting people "at will", saying they will "not allow the jungle raj to continue".

"Heartening to see the Supreme Court take cognisance of the attempted obstruction of justice by some lawyers in the brutal Kathua rape and murder case reminding us once again of the greatness of this nation", she said. During my visit last month here, I made it clear to everyone that in this matter no one speaks and let us allow the investigations to complete.
