Boston marks fifth year anniversary of marathon bombings

Clark County Fire Department Captain Sean Truchard is gearing up for the race in Boston Monday.

More than 1,250 runners took on the "flattest marathon in the world" on Sunday. In fall, she made it two-for-two in A+ marathon runs with a third place, 2:20:57 effort in Chicago-the second-fastest time ever recorded by an American woman.

Jordan Hasay, who finished third in last year's Boston Marathon, withdrew from the 2018 race on Sunday night because of a stress reaction in her heel, the John Hancock Financial Elite Team announced.

"We don't want to get complacent after what happened five years ago and that's something we continually stress", Boston Police Commissioner William Evans said. "There is definitely a different feel around the city", Boyarko said.

Hasay, New York City Marathon victor Shalane Flanagan and fellow Americans Desiree Linden and Molly Huddle had been expected to challenge Kenyan defending champion Edna Kiplagat to end the nation's 33-year wait for a home victor in the women's race. Rain is forecasted all day for the race. When she completes the race, she is going to her friend's gravesite and will bury the charm there. "We have reclaimed the finish line, and Boston has emerged with a new strength, a resilience rooted in love", Walsh said.

Race results will be available on the Boston Athletic Association's website after the race.
