Ahead Of Comey's Media Blitz, Trump Lashes Out Again

The excerpts sparked another furious round of tweets by Trump, calling Comey a "slimeball" and saying he "stupidly" handled a probe into Trump's 2016 election rival Hillary Clinton. "Whether there's fire, I didn't stay long enough to know".

In an attempt to delegitimize the intelligence community's ongoing Russian Federation investigation, conservatives have asserted that the FBI only began its investigation into the Trump campaign because of the Steele dossier, a controversial memo based on investigative efforts funded first by Republican opponents of Trump and then by Democrats. His "memos" are self serving and FAKE!'

In a statement to The Associated Press, Lynch responds to criticism from Comey in his forthcoming book that, early in the email inquiry, she had instructed him to refer to it as a "matter" rather than an "investigation".

Trump reacted on Twitter early Friday, the day after the emergence of details from Comey's memoir, which says Trump is "untethered to truth", and describes him as fixated in the early days of his presidency on having the Federal Bureau of Investigation debunk salacious rumors he said were untrue but that could distress his wife.

"I hope not because I think impeaching and removing Donald Trump from office would let the American people off the hook and have something happen indirectly that I believe they're duty bound to do directly".

Comey's explosive book, which is apparently highly critical of Trump, will hit the bookshelves next week.

Trump has denied that conversation, but Comey insisted that it occurred.

"That's stunning", Stephanopoulos replied. And so I don't know the reason. "We are fascinated by James Comey in Trump's America", she said.

He says there's "certainly some evidence of obstruction of justice", though he notes that he's just a witness in the case and not an investigator or prosecutor. It always struck me and still strikes me as unlikely, and I would've been able to say with high confidence about any other president I dealt with, but I can't.

Comey believed his boss, the then-attorney general Loretta Lynch wasn't independent. Democrats, on the other hand, have accused Comey of politicizing the investigation, and Clinton herself has said it hurt her election prospects.

Comey recalls in some detail Trump's response when he briefed the president-elect on the Steele dossier, complete with its urine-soaked account of Russian kompromat: "He interrupted very defensively and started talking about it, you know, 'Do I look like a guy who needs hookers?'" Comey said he found it "crazy" that Americans were present. "[To] be honest, it gave me a bad feeling". Trump said on Twitter.

He also spoke about special counsel Robert Mueller, who is investigating the alleged Russian interference in the 2016 election.

"[It] did worry me that the attorney general's direction was tracking that effort to avoid using the word 'investigation, ' he said".

When he did get on the plane, he said, "I drank red wine from a paper cup and just looked out at the lights of the country I love so much as we flew home".

In a separate interview with USA Today, Comey - in a reference to salacious allegations contained in an unverified dossier created by former British intelligence agent Christopher Steele - said it is hard "to explain some things without at least leaving your mind open" to the possibility that such compromising information exists.
