206 million eggs recalled: What you need to know about salmonella

The FDA said the illnesses prompted an inspection of the Hyde County farm, which produces 2.3 million eggs a day.

The eggs all come from Rose Acre Farms in Indiana.

The eggs reached consumers in Florida, New York, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, New Jersey, Virginia, Colorado, South Carolina, and West Virginia.

In the latest widespread incident, more than 200 million eggs have been recalled from supermarkets and grocery chains including Food Lion and Walmart. That means that the recall impacts eggs packed from January 11 through April 12.

The affected eggs are from plant number P-1065 with the Julian date range of 011 through date of 102 printed on either the side portion or the principal side of the carton or package.

Last month, the FDA said that it had learnt about a cluster of salmonella outbreaks in multiple states, and investigators worked with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and state authorities to trace the source of the illness. They were sold under the brand names Country Daybreak, Crystal Farms, Coburn Farms, Sunshine Farms, Glenview and Great Value.

However, some cases turn so severe that patients need to be hospitalized.

At least 200 million eggs have been recalled across the United States due to salmonella after 22 illness were reported related to the eggs.

Most people who get sick develop diarrhea, a fever, and abdominal cramps within 8 to 72 hours.

Contamination can also take place if people don't wash their hands thoroughly after using the toilet or changing a diaper.

The eggs are from a farm in Carolina that distributes to states such as NY and some of the eggs may be responsible for a salmonella outbreak.

"The Hyde County farm has never undergone a recall or serious safety violation", it claimed, including the recall "has been ran in full alliance with the FDA".
