Winter weather advisory for Sunday; steady rain on Monday

Several communities around Metro Detroit have issued winter weather alerts overnight into Sunday as storms continue in the area. "Primarily freezing rain or sleet is anticipated Saturday night into Sunday". Total ice accumulation is expected to be less than an inch.

The DOT warned of mixed precipitation creating slippery road surfaces.

Officials expect significant ice amounts, including accumulations of two-tenths to four-tenths of an inch.

The National Weather Service also issued a hazardous weather outlook, with a forecast that calls for freezing rain that will turn to sleet.

Freezing rain could reach farther south Saturday night, into the Finger Lakes and Central New York, but the weather service said it's still unclear if temperatures will drop far enough for ice to form.

Temperatures are expected to warm above freezing Sunday afternoon.
