Govt will build 1.5 lakh Health & Welfare Centres across districts: PM Modi

"On occasion of Ambedkar jayanti I appealed the youths not to take up arms and ruin their life".

PM Modi also spoke about how his government had taken measures to protect Dalits.

The prime minister was in Bijapur to inaugurate a health and wellness centre at the primary level, the first of 1.5 lakh such proposed centres at the village level across the country under the Ayushmaan Bharat scheme.

Addressing a huge gathering of villagers in Jangala in the Naxal-heartland of Bijapur in this tribal-dominated region of Chhattisgarh, Modi asked people not to hand over the rights of their children to Naxal leaders who keep themselves safe but allow locals to die. The birthday of Dr B R Ambedkar will be observed on Saturday, April 14.

The visit will be conducted under a massive security umbrella which will see the deployment of 10,000 personnel, including commandos from the elite Special Protection Group and jawans from the state's Special Task Force (STF), District Reserve Guard (DRG) and Chhattisgarh Armed Force (CAF).

The government aims to develop these centres by 2022. This was the Modi's fourth visit to Chhattisgarh, where assembly elections are due later in the year.

"If Bijapur district can witness development in just 100 days, why cannot others?" he wondered.

The line, part of the Dallirajhra-Rowghat Railway project, will help connect the people of north Bastar.

"Bijapur was labelled a backward district".

Referring to himself, the PM said, "If today this brother of yours, who is the son of a poor woman and hails from a backward community, is the Prime Minister of the country then it is because of Babasaheb". We gave each one a three-month to show their growth capacity and development on the given indicators.

He said the government was working with a different approach for 115 backward districts, which were categorised as "aspirational districts" and "ambitious districts". This is an insult to their sacrifice, Modi said.
