Blizzard forces diversion of Winnipeg Jets' flight from Minneapolis to Duluth

Thursday, with the rest of the series kicking off, we got big nights from the Boston Bruins and Tampa Bay Lightning, an overtime collapse by the Washington Capitals and a physical 3-0 victory by the San Jose Sharks over the hot Anaheim Ducks.

The Winnipeg Whiteout - that tradition which has Jets fans celebrating the region's often inclement winter weather by wearing white to playoff games - seemed like a good idea, especially as raucous home crowds helped spur the Jets to a 2-0 lead in their best-of-seven first round playoff series with the Minnesota Wild. When he went down to the U.S. Saturday morning, he was accompanied by his father, Don Smith, and step-mother, Alana Brownlee, who will also be watching Game 3 live with him. "It's a hockey state for sure".

The Wild lost in regulation just six times in 41 home game this season. I think to a man we knew we didn't play a playoff game last game here in Game 1. We know the crowd is going to be very good. Winnipeg defenceman Dustin Byfuglien - 6-foot-5 and 260 pounds - had Wild forwards cringing as they entered his territory, having seen teammate after teammate turned into rink-board advertising.

Another attempt to depart for Minnesota will be made Sunday morning.

Sunday's game is slightly in jeopardy, as the Jets weren't able to fly into the Twin Cities on Saturday because of the snowstorm.

The Jets ended the night with 30 scoring chances to the Wild's 11, according to Natural Stat Trick. "We're going to do our best to make this a series and compete. It's a free couple wins,"' Minnesota forward Zach Parise told reporters after the skate. "These guys are playing really well and we're going to have to play much better".

Game 4 was scheduled for Tuesday. "The success that comes off winning a game - all of those are really important things to capture".

Defenseman Tyler Myers had a goal in the second period and also had an assist. "It's special to get a start, it's special to get starts in the playoffs and carry a team and try to be the block in the wall behind them".

"Yeah", Hellebuyck said when asked if he was disappointed in not posting a shutout. We have educated guesses and predictions, but all of that flies out the window once the puck is dropped. It's not as if we can go in there and get an easy game.

With the Golden Knights now two games into their first-round playoff series against the Los Angeles Kings in the National Hockey League's Stanley Cup playoffs, head coach Gerard (Turk) Gallant says it's business as usual for the expansion franchise.

Midway through the game, former Calder Trophy victor, defenceman Tyler Myers walked around Minny's Jason Zucker, before shifting his way directly to the Wild cage, and burying a quick snapshot past the near-unbeatable Devan Dubnyk.
