Neate also alluded to the introduction of new ways for crews to communicate with one another. In addition, some new weekly events with new mechanics will be added. Today, the developer offered a glimpse into the future, promising regular content updates and weekly events, as well as new threats and reasons to explore Sea of Thieves' world.

We've been listening closely to our community, and we know how keen they are to hear how we plan to grow Sea of Thieves.

Three more major content updates will arrive in the fall and winter for Sea of Thieves. It sounds like Sea of Thieves fans will need to wait to find out what this new threat will be, but Rare says it will require that players, or teams of players will need to work together to uncover it.

This first update will add a new AI threat into the game.

Weekly events will introduce new mechanics, or see fun goals for players to achieve in the world. This will be a "more perilous" part of the world that includes yet another new AI threat that is themed around that area.

The Xbox and PC exclusive, Rare-developed game, recently surpassed two million players - in part, because it's a part of Microsoft's Xbox Game Pass platform - and now the developer behind the title has revealed plans for five major content updates over the course of this year. Similar to The Hungering Deep, both of these updates will also include new gameplay mechanics for players, new AI threats to challenge and new unique rewards to claim. Rare said that this change in focus is a direct result of player feedback, and that it will continue to listen to the community as to which direction the game will be heading.

The studio added that the previously announced ship captaincy mechanic and the microtransactions based pets have been delayed to prioritize development of the upcoming content updates. "Expect our plans to continue to be fluid, but always with the goals listed above as our guiding principles".

All of the aforementioned content will be available to Sea of Thieves players at no additional cost.
