Milos Forman Dies At 86: Celebrities, Fans React To 'Amadeus' Director's Death

Among the collegians who was admiring his work back then was Michael Douglas, then a University of California Santa Barbara student, who would hire Forman to direct his long-laboured One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.

His supervisor, Dennis Aspland, confirmed to the Press Affiliation that the filmmaker "handed away late final night time".

His other significant and praiseworthy works include the rock musical titled "Hair" (1979), "Ragtime" (1981), "Valmont" (1989), "Man on the Moon" (1999) and "Goya's Ghosts" (2006) and "The People vs Larry Flint" (1996), which won him an Academy Award nomination that year. He was orphaned after his parents were taken to concentration camps. But this was only the beginning for the fresh Czech who later moved to the USA to direct Academy Award-winning films "Amadeus" and "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest".

"One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest", adapted from Ken Kesey's 1962 novel, dealt with life inside an OR mental institution.

The Fireman's Ball was released in 1967 and Forman was then invited to the United States by Paramount Pictures to make a film in America.

"Several times before, I asked the Czech government to let my children come see me, and they never did".

Married three times, Forman met his third wife Martina - a writer three decades his junior - in Prague in the 1990s.

The death of Milos Forman has triggered tributes to the iconic two-time Oscar-winning director from the film community in many parts of the world.

Forman rebounded four years later with the iconic "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest", which won five Academy Awards, including one for himself as director.

Never prolific, Forman's output slowed even more after Amadeus, and his three subsequent films were disappointments.

He left his second wife, singer Vera Kresadlova, behind with the couple's twin sons when he left Czechoslovakia.
