Driver in Hart family cliff crash was drunk

A woman's body has been found in a Northern California river, where a auto belonging to the missing Thottapilly family, of Valencia, is believed to be submerged, authorities said.

The Harts, who immersed their children in alternative culture, left many friends and acquaintances with the impression of a happy family that emphasized love, unity and music.

Toxicology tests also found that her wife Sarah Hart and two of their children had "a significant amount" of an ingredient commonly found in the allergy drug Benadryl, which can make people sleepy. The crash happened just days after authorities in Washington state opened an investigation following allegations the children were being neglected.

Lab results on the driver's body found she had a blood-alcohol concentration above the state's legal limit of 0.08 percent, Powers said.

Dr Bell said the safety of children of convicted adults was not the responsibility of any one government department.

Jennifer and Sarah Hart and three of their children were killed in the vehicle crash.

Cheryl Hart, who identified herself as a friend of Sarah Hart, called 911 in Clark County on Monday, March 26, anxious because she hadn't been able to reach Sarah since receiving a text message from her at 3 a.m. two days earlier.

A woman who reported Devonte Hart's parents to OR child welfare officials almost five years ago is now pushing for the creation of a national child abuse registry.

In 2013, a former friend of the Hart family told child welfare officials in OR in 2013 that Jennifer and Sarah Hart deprived the kids of food as punishment.

Devonte drew national attention after he was photographed in tears while hugging a white police officer during a 2014 protest.

The Mendocino County Sheriff's Office has been in contact with numerous other county dive teams and technical rescue responders that can be called upon, when the vehicle is located, to assist with recovery of the vehicle.

Jennifer Hart (center) was drunk when she drove her wife and six children off of a cliff in California, according to police. Authorities believe Devonte, 15, Hannah, 16, and Sierra, 12, may have been in the vehicle and were swept out to sea.
