Priyanka gets shoved at Rahul Gandhi's march at India Gate

Posters skewering the BJP's "Beti Bachao" (Save the girl child) slogan rose above the crowd as grim reminders of the brutal rape and killing of Asifa Bano, an 8 year old who was grazing her horses in a meadow in Kathua, Kashmir on the day she was led away to her death in the musty innards of a deserted temple. The parents of Jyoti Singh, known as Nirbhaya, who died after being brutally gangraped in the national capital in 2012 were also present for the demonstration.

Congress spokesperson Ajay Maken said a candlelight march will be taken out at 12 am from the DPCC office to India Gate. In Kashmir's Kathua, an 8 year old was raped, tortured and killed by many men in a bid to settle communal scores. "This defies all human values we have grown with as a society", Gandhi said.

"Atrocities are being committed against women in the country and the government is sleeping". Demanding Yogi's resignation and suspension of Kuldeep Singh Senger from BJP, Dev further said, " If Prime Minister Modi was to prove that his promise to ensure safety of women was true, he must remove CM Yogi and order his party leadership to suspend the accused MLA.

Announcing the march, Gandhi had tweeted in the evening, "Like millions of Indians my heart hurts tonight. Join me in a silent, peaceful, candlelight vigil at India Gate at midnight tonight to protest this violence and demand justice", Rahul Gandhi on Twitter.

"How can anyone protect the culprits of such evil?"

Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said they were protesting to awaken the Modi government from its "slumber".

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was apparently caught unawares about the protest, with Congress workers from Delhi and neighbouring areas rushing to the venue on the call of their party leader.

Her husband Robert Vadra, who was also present in the protest march to the India Gate, said the country needs a change where women could feel safe. The two-hour-long demonstration ended with the detention of the protestors.

Several people were seen having brought their children as well, but at times, the chaotic crowd appeared getting out of control and Priyanka Vadra was shoved by some, prompting her to ask people to maintain calm and remember the "cause" for which they had come there.
