BJP ministers who rallied in support of Kathua rape accused resign

Sources said two BJP ministers Choudhary Lal Singh Minister for Forest, Environment, Ecology and Chader Prakash Ganga Minister for Industries have submitted their resignations to the party.

The ministers had last month attended a rally in Hiranagar area of Kathua district organised by Hindu Ekta Munch in favour of the seven people accused in the rape and subsequent murder of an eight-year-old girl. "However, neither the party supported the Manch nor ministers had supported their agitation except telling the agitators that they will take up their demand for CBI probe in the government", he added. The opposition parties are putting pressure on Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to sack the two ministers. The police had carried out a "very fair investigation" and arrested eight accused in the case, Lekhi said, while suggesting that the Congress might have had a role in the public protests against the probe. They should have ideally not commented until an investigation was conducted.

Stressing on the unhappy alliance, he stated that we are supposed to be partners in restoring this place, but due to non-fulfilling of commitments, "we have ended up being partners in a crime that an entire generation of Kashmiris might have to pay with their blood".
