Schuette joins Trump for signing of new human trafficking federal law

Penny Nance, CEO and president of Concerned Women for America, applauds the commander in chief for supporting the biggest anti-sex trafficking bill since the Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act of 2003.

A woman dabbed as President Donald Trump signed a sex trafficking bill on Wednesday. This bill provides law enforcement and prosecutors the tools they need to seek justice for trafficking victims and hold websites that knowingly facilitate these crimes accountable.

"I've heard statistics where trafficking in the world is more now than ever has been in the history of the world and you wouldn't believe that with modern day everything", said Trump. "You are not alone".

The legislation received support from members on both sides of the aisle, as well as advocacy organizations like Polaris, ECPAT USA and the National Center on Missing & Exploited Children. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) and U.S. Sen. Rep. Ann Wagner, R-Missouri, sponsored the bipartisan House bill. The site offered classified listings for a wide variety of products and services including prostitution and sex trafficking.

"We've already interrupted 87% of the global ad volume". Yvonne told WUSA9, "That man who purchased her from Backpage, beat her, strangled her, raped her and then cut her throat". The 93-count indictment alleges the website facilitated prostitution and laundered tens of millions of dollars in profits and teenage girls were sold for sex on the site.

The law passed Congress overwhelmingly.

Backpage is the internet's second-largest classified ads website which is used for sex trafficking.

Wagner first became involved in anti-trafficking advocacy efforts when she was a United States ambassador to Luxembourg. "It means so much to our family". But the president ignored shouted questions about those topics after the signing ceremony.

"I have to give credit to Ivanka Trump", Trump said, pointing to his daughter who was standing behind him.

"This is someone who can raise a level of awareness just by talking about it, by tweeting something out, by bringing legislators together", she said.

Amends the Communications Act of 1934 to declare that section 230 does not limit: (1) a federal civil claim for conduct that constitutes sex trafficking, (2) a federal criminal charge for conduct that constitutes sex trafficking, or (3) a state criminal charge for conduct that promotes or facilitates prostitution in violation of this bill. "And to do hard things, it takes a lot of grit and gumption a little grace from God", she said.
