Nokia 3 receives stable Android Oreo 8.0 update via OTA

The update adds features like Picture-in-Picture mode, 60 new emojis as well as Android Instant apps, which will help optimise battery in the Nokia 3 by limiting background app use. But HMD is apparently updating the Nokia 3 to Android 8.0. It also ships its devices without modifying the software, a process that mostly complicates matters for the competition which struggles to deliver updates on time even for devices that cost as much as five times the price of the Nokia 3. Since it is an Android One smartphone, you can expect to continue receiving the latest security patch updates from Google every month. When the Nokia brand was resurrected by HMD Global, the one thing that the Finnish company promised the buyers that they will be offering the ultimate Android experience coupled with timely updates. In addition, HMD Global has also rolled the Android 8.1 OTA for Nokia 6 of 2018 along with the Nokia 7 Plus devices. Nokia 3 was running the Nougat till now.

If you don't see any update notification on your device, then you can request for manual upgrade by going through Settings About Phone and then tap on Software Update. In February, HMD started the Oreo beta program for the Nokia 3, allowing owners of the smartphone to test what Oreo would look like on their device.

For the unknown, the Nokia 3 was first unveiled during MWC 2017, before being launched in India in June. The Android 8.1 update for the Nokia 7 Plus comes with a size of 590.2MB and brings the exact same features.

The Settings menu is improved and there are improvements to the camera and the battery with this new 8.0 update for the Nokia 3 smartphones. Now available via the OTA route, the software update weighs in at 509 MB in terms of size.
