Andres Iniesta 'hurting' after surprise Champions League exit

Barcelona, have now crashed out of the quarterfinal stage of the Champions League for three consecutive years despite their impressive league form under manager Ernesto Valverde this season. It, however, has to deal with the threat of a Lionel Messi-led Barcelona attack, which can exploit the spaces Roma leaves behind while committing men forward.

Only Edin Dzeko was able to find the back of the net for the Serie A side. Cengiz Under is doubtful for the second leg with a knee injury. "We had high hopes this season and it has escaped us again", added the 33-year-old player, who also acknowledged that the game could have been his last in the competition for Barca amid uncertainty about his future beyond this season.

"It's a very big disappointment after the great season we have had".

Trailing 4-1 after the first leg, Roma beat the Catalan giants 3-nil in Italy last night, to win the tie on the away goals rule. It's hard to say sorry because at the end of the day we always try to give our best.

"We still have to go for all the titles [La Liga and the Copa del Rey], it wouldn't be a bad season, but it will be conditioned by what we did here today in Rome".

'We looked at the game in the first leg... we've watched Barcelona for a number of months now and I'm not sure - even though they haven't conceded many - I'm not sure you cannot concede when you've got two strikers that don't put anything into defending. "They were superior to us in all aspects". Yet, Reds fans took joy from seeing Barcelona exit the tournament.
