Pikeville, Ky. police officer shot and killed

A Kentucky police officer has been fatally shot while on duty. Carter said Hamilton was a 12-year veteran with the Pikeville Police Department.

Owner Paul Patula says as his restaurant is a personal franchise, he feels it is important to broadcast their support for law enforcement in every way possible, including social media. After speaking to the people in the vehicle, the officers decided to make a quick search around the area and a nearby residence to check for any questionable subjects on foot.

Gunshots were fired a short time later near the home.
