QB Case Keenum Intends To Sign With Denver Broncos

University of Houston grad Keenum last season led the Minnesota Vikings to the NFC championship game for the first time since 2009, completing 67.6 percent of his passes for 3,547 yards with 22 touchdowns and seven interceptions.

Although Kirk Cousins has been touted as the top quarterback to hit free agency this year, the Broncos, after extensive evaluation of all their options, felt more comfortable with Keenum.

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) - John Elway is looking to free agency for his fix at quarterback following a season in which all three of his drafted QBs fell flat in Denver.

The Broncos balked at Cousins' bargaining starting point Monday.

According to ProFootballTalk, a source with knowledge of the dynamics of the process believes Keenum's contract will be somewhere between $18 and $20 million per year, with Mike Klis of 9News.com reporting that the QB is expected to get a short-term deal. We just have to figure out a way to get it right. The Broncos need a couple more moves at offensive line to give Keenum the kind of protection he had previous year but no matter what, he's a massive upgrade from the last two seasons at QB for Denver.

"I still think that we're not too far away", Elway said earlier in the offseason. "Obviously, we have to get better at that (quarterback) position", general manager John Elway said at the National Football League combine. That doesn't all go on the players. Gang Green hasn't won a Super Bowl in 49 years, and the quarterback would become immortalized if he could bring a championship to the much-maligned franchise.

"There were some things we should have done differently that we didn't do".

Denver also was reportedly in the market for Kirk Cousins, who is set to leave the Redskins this week. "But I feel like we can get right back in the thick of things pretty quickly". Sure, you could say that the fact the Broncos took Keenum as the first QB move in free agency could or does mean that he's clearly highly coveted, but that's something that ignores the reality surrounding how he ended up there.
