Bonaventure's Courtney Stockard to be 'game-time decision' for NCAA Tournament game

The UCLA men's basketball team is set to fly to Dayton, Ohio, Monday morning for Tuesday's NCAA tournament First Four game against St. Bonaventure.

St. Bonaventure will be making its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2012, when it was edged 66-63 by Florida State in the second round of the tournament in Nashville, Ten. Those are the numbers of a first team all-conference player. The Sooners may have deserved to get into the Big Dance based on their sensational play during the non-conference schedule but they did not deserve a better placement than the Bonnies. He was one of the top scorers in the Atlantic Ten with almost 20 points per game. The 6-1 junior is also a strong distributor, ranking second in the conference with 5.8 assists per game. The Bonnies scored 77.9 per game, which included 117 in one of the final regular games of the season against Davidson. Head coach Steve Alford brought the team to the Sweet 16 in three of his first four years with the team.

The Bruins rank 29th in blocks allowed per game (2.5) while the Bonnies rank 179th (3.8).

The First Four has been held annually in connection with the expansion of the tournament field from 65. Adams has been sensational this season since returning from an injury that sidelined him for most of nonconference play, dropping 40-plus point outings in back-to-back games earlier this season.

The Bruins have a long standing history of success in the NCAA Tournament. "I think one of the advantages, if we have an advantage, is that we played here a number of times". Within the four-minute stretch, the Bruins added on another three turnovers. He committed 10 turnovers - his previous season high was seven, done twice in an overtime loss to MI and in a win over Kentucky.

The Bruins had an early and global role in college basketball's season of scandal. UCLA has a little more experience, and a little more talent.

For good or for bad, whichever way Aaron Holiday goes so go the Bruins.

What's mystifying about Holiday's performance in what turned into UCLA's season finale was how hot the point guard was coming into the tournament.

UCLA eased to a comfortable 111-59 victory over St. Bonaventure on December 22, 1973, and followed that up the very next season with a closer 78-62 win on a neutral-site on December 27, 1974. If the Bruins crash the boards against the Bonnies they'll be moving on.
