5 times we cried during This Is Us season 2, episode 18

5 times we cried during This Is Us season 2, episode 18

Instinctively, I found myself thinking back to the worst case scenarios that Randall and Beth had considered earlier in the episode.

"I can't tell you who the 'her" is, but we'll be definitely following up on it in season three, ' Berger said. Within the latter half of this season alone, This Is Us gave us a heartbreaking miscarriage; an almost devastating auto accident that resulted in a DUI; a fire that nearly killed Jack Pearson, then didn't, but sort of did because he died of a heart attack afterward, all on Super Bowl Sunday; an eviction; and a wedding day that should have been focused on celebrating Toby and Kate but instead was dominated by the heavy grief and guilt Kate has been carrying for two decades with regard to her father's death.

While Jack may only attend Kate and Toby's wedding in spirit, co-showrunner Isaac Aptaker confirmed that the entire Pearson family will be there.

Things get hectic as crews set up the cabin for Kate and Toby's wedding. Kate had a monumental breakthrough in regards to her relationship with her father, while Kevin showed surprising maturity in his speech at the wedding reception, which proved cathartic for the cast and the viewers. This was a hugely symbolic moment for Kate, as she has carried the weight and guilt of his passing for far too long. Deja has understandably been acting out after her mother abandoned her at the Pearson household. "It sort of makes you wistful for what could have been", she explained. We can't wait to see how this finale goes and we've got our box of tissues ready.

At the wedding, Beth's cousin Zoey is the photographer. Viewers briefly saw an older Randall and grown-up Tess (Eris Baker). He's telling her that eventually she has to see her. It also dealt more directly and honestly with the fact that bad things happen to good people, not because there's a grand plan in place, but because life is just kind of an asshole sometimes. My guess is they are talking about Deja.

What do you think is happening with Tess and Randall in the flash-forward on This Is Us and what do you want to see? That's partly because Kevin spent most of the non-exhaling portion of it talking about his recovery from addiction, but also because the moment seemed created to serve a larger goal: to signal to the This Is Us audience that this period of the series, which has been so focused on continuing to grapple with the impact of Jack Pearson's death, is about to embark on a new chapter. Watching how happy the Big Three are to see their parents celebrating their glorious marriage?

This Is Us previously teased Jack's return for Kate's wedding, leading fans to speculate what twist the drama might pull off next.

I look forward to finding out what happens during the next year of the Pearsons' lives. I'd like to find out exactly how depressed he was before he met Kate and perhaps what might have sent him into that downward spiral after their wedding. Randall's youngest daughter Annie has also been a no-show in each of those sequences.

'I think she is now really emotionally prepared to be that person for him.

Warning: This Is Us season two finale spoilers. Are you surprised that Kate is able to "let go" of Jack and make room for Toby? Then, Kate sits at Toby's bedside as he has apparently been diagnosed with a serious illness. And if these past two seasons are any indication, it's going to blow us away.

We never even fully realized it, but Kate has been living in Rebecca's shadow in even more ways that we realized. We all have been holding onto and mourning Jack Pearson since we discovered he was going to die, and even seeing it just tore us apart.
