WWE Fastlane 2018 results: Randy Orton reigns supreme, John Cena suffers defeat

Nevertheless, the intrigue is set and Smackdown will get the recognition for their championship match.

The biggest focus of this year's Fastlane (now exclusive to the SmackDown Live brand after they traded events following WrestleMania 33) is the gargantuan six-pack challenge for AJ Styles's WWE Championship.

Flair picked up a strong win over Riott in a good match which saw both competitors' back-up groups ejected from ringside.

The tag-team of "The New Day" was out next to compete against the Tag-team Champions "The Usos" in the title match.

However, WWE swerved everyone on Sunday when they had The Empress of Tomorrow appear at Fastlane and officially challenge Charlotte Flair to a title match at Mania.

Nakamura's time as NXT champion and the lead-up to him winning the Royal Rumble was covered, and it made him look like a legitimate top guy with a great chance of winning the WWE Championship at WrestleMania. Nah. Bobby jumped off the second turnbuckle and Randy hit an RKO and that was it. Jinder ran in afterward and Roode laid out both men. Man, it sure seems like most of the main WrestleMania title matches are going to wind up as triple threats.

John Cena has found his opponent for WrestleMania.

Asuka vs Charlotte Flair is one of the marquee matches in today's women's wrestling and overall in the entire WWE as well.

Going by the history of WWE, mostly all the departing veteran superstars have followed the pattern Cena is following.

AJ Styles retained his WWE Championship by surviving a Six-Pack challenge against against John Cena, Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, Dolph Ziggler and Baron Corbin.

But, if I get the opportunity to wrestle Shinsuke Nakamura at WrestleMania, a match that no one has seen on US soil, and only happened once in Japan, this could be huge. I prefer Taker, but as long as he's not butting into Styles vs. Nakamura, I can live with whatever. In the process, he has also kept his Wrestlemania match against Shinsuke Nakamura intact. This tag match is the biggest selling point of Fastlane aside from the potential of simply seeing The Undertaker. I get shivers thinking about it, and I think it would definitely work.

Ziggler talked about his focus on tonight's match for the WWE Championship and John Cena having "fresh legs" coming into the match.

The biggest implication of the main event, however, is the WWE Championship match at WrestleMania 34, in which Shinsuke Nakamura is already a penciled-in participant.
