Matt Damon, Ben Affleck's Production Company to Adopt Inclusion Rider

From the South by Southwest festival in Austin, Texas, actor/producer Fanshen Cox DiGiovanni tweeted,"On behalf of Pearl Street Films, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Jennifer Todd, Drew Vinton & I will be adopting the #InclusionRider for all of our projects moving forward". The announcement was made on Twitter Monday.

In a statement released to media by the Initiative, it said: "It's great to see Matt Damon, Ben Affleck and the Pearl Street Films team using their influence to create opportunities for people from underrepresented groups to enter the industry".

An inclusion rider is meant to improve gender and racial diversity within films. While the concept of inclusion riders has been around since 2014, it didn't start to get widespread attention until McDormand's Oscar acceptance speech-and even McDormand said that she only found out what inclusion riders were a week before winning her Oscar.

"In support of the women and men who are leading this fight, I will be adopting the Inclusion Rider for all projects produced by my company Outlier Society", Jordan went on to announce via Instagram March 7.

Google searches for "inclusion rider" spiked in the wake of McDormand's speech and there were thousands of tweets mentioning the term in the 20 minutes after her speech concluded. She's also on the board of the Annenberg Inclusion Initiative, the think tank housed at the University of Southern California that was, conveniently, founded by Dr. Stacy L. Smith, the co-originator of the official inclusion rider.
