Mario Kart Easter egg appears on Google Maps

From now until March 17th, you'll be able to replace the standard Google Maps navigation arrow with 3D image of Mario driving his kart around the streets of the world. The option to switch to Mario will be available to drivers for a week. Happily, the easter egg is not geo-restricted, so users in Malaysia can navigate to their next destination on Google Maps with the "Let's Go!" quip by the plumber.

Click on the yellow ? icon found on the bottom right of Google Maps app on Android or iOS.

Oh, and if you're wondering what March 10th has to do with Mario day.well, it's because of MAR10.

Once enabled, users would notice that the regular navigation arrow has morphed into Mario - the 1990s' video game character - complete with his iconic Mario Kart.

The feature only lasts for a week, so enjoy Mario Time while you can.

The Japanese game company is now working on Mario Kart Tour, a mobile game whose exact release date is yet to be revealed.

Munish Dabas, UX Engineer, Google Maps stated in the company's official blog, "We know a true Mario fan when we see one". Maps were transformed into a Ms. PacMan game for April Fool's Day 2017 and, in 2015, figures from "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" appeared in Google Maps. That partnership ultimately resulted in the birth of "Pokémon Go."

Super Mario Bros, or Mario Bros, was first introduced in Japan in 1983 and has gone on to sell more than 40 million video games till date. We can only hope there isn't some hidden blue shell waiting to knock you off your navigational path.
