Apple to buy digital magazine service Texture

Details of how much Apple is buying Texture for remain undisclosed.

The company was later rebranded as Texture and it now boasts of more than 200 titles from publishers Condé Nast, Hearst, Meredith and Rogers Media, who are all among the owners.

Apple is to buy the digital magazine service Texture, which lets users read titles for a monthly subscription fee.

Enjoy full issues of People, Time, GQ, Glamour, The New Yorker, Bon Appétit, Newsweek, ESPN, National Geographic, InStyle, Allrecipes, Shape, Men's Health, and many other great titles from the most trusted publishers.

Apple made its first big push to integrate magazines and newspapers into its devices with an application called Newsstand in 2011.

The largely evasive talk, titled "Curation in Media - Why It Matters", took the Austin Convention Centre audience through Apple TV and News strategy.

There is no word on what Apple intends to do with the purchase.

He didn't say exactly how Texture would be rolled into Apple News. "We don't try to sell the most smartphones in the world; we don't try to sell the most apps, we try to make the best one". Individual subscriptions to publications like The Washington Post are now available inside News, but this acquisition creates the potential for an official Apple service, similar to Apple Music, that bundles together the various magazine articles included in Texture.

"I'm thrilled that Next Issue Media, and its award-winning Texture app, are being acquired by Apple", said Loughlin.
