Chelsea ready to challenge Man Utd bid for Barcelona defender Umtiti

Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti is ready to snub Man Utd and join Chelsea if Luis Enrique takes over at Stamford Bridge this summer, according to the Express.

Sport report that his brother and representative, Yannick, has met with United chiefs on several occasions.

Mourinho would be willing to offer Umtiti around €9m in wages per season to make the move to the Premier League.

Manager Jose Mourinho is even believed to have called Umtiti personally to try and lure him from his current club, and speculation is also rife that the Portuguese boss has used his current French contingent of Anthony Martial and Paul Pogba to try and tap the defender up.

Although it seems unlikely he'd be tempted to leave the Camp Nou for Manchester, the same report claims Mourinho has called him regularly to try and persuade him to make the move, using global teammates Anthony Martial and Paul Pogba to try and sell the club to him.

Sport adds that Barcelona are still convinced that the Frenchman will snub United, as he did in January before signing a new long-term deal.

The Mirror says United will reportedly face competition from Chelsea for Umtiti.

The report adds that Mourinho calls Umtiti on a regular basis and is using the presence of his global teammates Paul Pogba and Anthony Martial to persuade the centre-back to move to United.

However, United could be set for disappointment as the Express claim 24-year-old defender isn't interested in moving to Old Trafford as he's informed team mate Gerard Pique that he's open to the idea of joining Chelsea instead.
