'There's no stopping' Lamb's campaign for Congress, Biden tells crowd

Saccone, according to recent polls, is in a close battle with Democrat Conor Lamb, as President Trump gets set to campaign for Saccone on Saturday in western Pennsylvania.

Biden, a Scranton, Pa., native, praised Lamb's character during two campaign rallies in advance of a March 13 special election in which he will face Republican Rick Saccone to represent the 18th Congressional District seat vacated by Tim Murphy.

If Saccone loses on Tuesday, it would mean that Trump and the party couldn't save a Republican candidate running in the heart of Trump country, and it would signal more danger for Republicans in the midterm elections come November. And the president is going to Pennsylvania to campaign for the Republican candidate on Saturday.

Joe Biden told a packed hall inside Robert Morris University Tuesday that congressional candidate Conor Lamb would help strengthen America's values while protecting the health care and social programs he said Republicans are trying to undermine. The district votes heavily Republican; Trump beat Hillary Clinton here by 20 points in 2016. We've had Ivanka. What does the other side have? "But the combination of a strong Democratic candidate with a good message, a very weak Republican candidate, and the prevailing winds working against Republicans is going to spell disaster here for them". By contrast, Saccone, an Air Force veteran and former college professor, has done a poor job fundraising, has a weak organization and has held few events in the district, according to the strategist, who asked for anonymity to talk candidly about the campaign. Southwest Pennsylvania, as much as any place, made Trump president.

The White House is not taking any chances in the latest Trump-era special election, knowing that the result will inevitably reflect upon the president.

"Take a look what's happening", Biden said of the GOP in the Trump era.

Less has been made about the Republican candidate, Rick Saccone, because he's turned out to be pretty awful. Other national groups allied with the GOP have spent almost $8 million on advertising in the race, which is more than seven times the amount invested by national Democratic allies not affiliated with the Lamb campaign.

"The story of this race is that candidates and campaigns matter", said Corry Bliss, the executive director of the Congressional Leadership Fund.

Conway's Thursday appearance comes just days after a federal watchdog determined that she violated the federal law prohibiting government officials from using their positions to influence political campaigns.

"This is the first I'm hearing about it", he told The Associated Press in a brief interview. "We have a lot of grassroots support here", McCann said.

"At this point, I just decided I needed equal time to offset some of the Democratic signs", Wilson said.
