The Seahawks drafted Sherman in the fifth round of the 2011 NFL Draft out of Stanford.

Sherman is also expected to undergo a physical and meet with team doctors to talk about the Achilles tendon he tore previous year, NFL Network reported.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Sherman will spend Saturday visiting with 49ers officials.

Richard Sherman was released by the Seahawks on Friday, but his time in free agency may be brief.

Sherman and San Francisco might be a strong fit.

There's a lot working in favor of Sherman landing in San Francisco. It's hard to say at this point what the Seahawks team will look like next year, though it's worth pointing out that Seattle still has Russell Wilson, and a franchise quarterback is a great starting point for any National Football League team looking to rebuild.

"We are very similar, yeah", Carroll said in September. They've got their own flavor to it. "But there is a lot of similarities".

With Sherman now in the clear, after being released, this could be the ideal match for both sides.

New England enters the weekend with approximately $23 million in cap space, which should enable the team to re-sign Nate Solder and make a run at another prominent player. Sherman will get paid for the years of elite play we've seen throughout his career, but will he be able to continue at that level in 2018 and beyond?

Maybe they were hoping Sherman's age and injury status would flatten his market.

Even if Sherman does not sign with the 49ers immediately it seems pretty clear a return to the Seahawks on a lesser deal than he had isn't first on Sherman's agenda.

As far as The Faithful are concerned, it's unclear if they'll welcome him with open arms after he played the role of heel during the heated 49ers-Seahawks rivalry from 2011-2014.

Josina Anderson of ESPN adds that Sherman has received initial interest from the 49ers, Tennessee Titans, Detroit Lions, Oakland Raiders, Houston Texans, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Green Bay Packers.
