Xiaomi Redmi 5 coming to India on March 14

The product launch - done via a live stream - had one more surprise carefully put towards the very end, teasing a new smartphone that's set to arrive in India on March 14.

As for the pricing, the Redmi Note 5 comes at a starting price of Rs. 9,999 for the 3GB RAM/32GB storage variant and Rs. 11,999 for the 4GB RAM/64GB storage variant.

The Redmi Note 5 and the Redmi Note 5 Pro will now go on sale on March 14, 2018, at 12 PM on Mi.com and Flipkart.

Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro purchase from Flipkart provides access to various offers. The Redmi 5 Plus is already available in India as the Redmi Note 5.

This annoys many users as they are not able to grab the device on the flash day sale.

There are possibilities that this new phone could be the Redmi 5, successor to last year's Redmi 4. The device sports a metallic side frame like the recently launched Redmi Note 5 Pro. The branding is confusing because the Redmi Note 5 sold in India is a rebrand of the Redmi 5 Plus sold in China, whereas the Redmi Note 5 Pro is an entirely new device that was launched in India first.

To refresh, the Redmi 5 bestows a 5.7-inch FHD+ display with a resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels and an aspect ratio of 18:9 as it flaunts a full-screen design. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 SoC, coupled with up to 6GB of RAM and 64GB of inbuilt storage.

One remarkable attribute of both phones is their picture quality: the Redmi 5a Prime boasts of a 16MP front camera, with f/2.0 aperture on the front as well as a flash light, while the primary camera for both phones on the rear packs a 13-megapixel camera.

Housing the dual rear-camera system (12MP+5MP) and a 20MP selfie shooter, Redmi Note 5 Pro is the first Xiaomi smartphone to come with the "Face Unlock" feature. Running MIUI 9 based on Android Nougat, the smartphone is likely to receive the Android Oreo update sometime soon. Measuring 151.8 × 72.8 × 7.7mm, the smartphone is backed by a 3,300 mAh battery and offers 4G, VoLTE, 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth and Global Positioning System as connectivity options. For the front, there is a 20-megapixel camera with Sony IMX376 sensor, LED flash and Beautify 4.0.
