If you're a fan of Square Enix's RPGs that aren't necessarily Final Fantasy, then you might have heard that a year ago, the company announced that they would be launching a new RPG called Octopath Traveler.

Alongside this, Square revealed two new characters: Tress the Merchant, whose Path action is "Purchase", which lets her buy special items that others would not be able to; and Alfyn the Apothecary, whose "Inquire" action can get more details out of those he's talking to.

During the recent Nintendo Direct presentation, the company has recently released a new trailer for the upcoming game as well as confirming that the game will be released on the 13th of July, 2018.

It further offered a brief preview of the game's job system during the stream, along with its worldwide release date scheduled on July 13.

The job system was shown off during battles, as well. For those not in the loop, each of the eight playable characters in Project Octopath Traveler has a unique Path Action in addition to their primary job, which allows them to interact with the world around them in different ways.

Additionally, Takahashi revealed the contents of the special edition. The special edition includes a soundtrack, a map, a coin resembling those found in the game, and a pop-up book featuring all eight characters.

Square Enix intentionally developed Octopath Traveler with the unique visual design called "HD-2D", a mix of 2D sprites with 3D backgrounds. It seems that the developer wants to capitalize on the nostalgic appeal of its previous titles on older consoles.
