Mario Tennis Aces Pre-Launch Tournament Announced

Mario Tennis Aces Pre-Launch Tournament Announced

The previous Mario Tennis game, Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash, launched in November 2015 on Wii U. Nintendo unveiled Mario Tennis Aces during a surprise Nintendo Direct Mini video in January. Also, as expected, the roster will be the usual suspects (Mario, Luigi, Toadette and so on), but newcomers are also in the wings with Chain Chomp being the most notable.

Using the Zone Shot can damage your opponent's racket, and if you or your opponent take three hits to the racket it breaks for an automatic loss. The game will also include a mode for "simple rules", allowing players to use only basic shots if they so choose. Trick Shots let your character jump across the court at the expense of energy.

All those moves consume energy from a gauge that slowly fills up over the course of a rally.

The Special Shot is a character's ultimate strike. It can be blocked, however, so be careful of a counter strike. But Nintendo has never been one to give up on its fans, and it has delivered. The first details of Mario Tennis Aces and its release date have slipped through the cracks. These special shots consume energy from a gauge, which limits the amount of tennis fury you can unleash at one time. You can either play with the controllers in horizontal modes or with motion controls that mimic real life tennis swings.

That's about all we know at this point, as further details haven't been made available as of yet. The game will support up to four players in local and online multiplayer; Nintendo is promising online events and tournaments, with rewards such as special outfits and even bonus characters.
