Jon Favreau to write, produce new 'Star Wars' series

After three new films from the franchise, Lucasfilm announced multiple TV series in the works for Disney's upcoming streaming platform including, just yesterday, one from writer/director/actor Jon Favreau (Iron Man, the upcoming Lion King).

Favreau has directed hit Hollywood movies including Iron Man, Iron Man 2 and Disney's The Jungle Book.

"Jon brings the flawless mix of producing and writing talent, combined with a fluency in the Star Wars universe", said Kathleen Kennedy, Lucasfilm president, in a statement.

"If you told me at 11 years old that I would be getting to tell stories in the Star Wars universe, I wouldnt have believed you. I can't wait to embark upon this exciting adventure", he said. "Jon brings the ideal mix of producing and writing talent, combined with a fluency in the Star Wars universe".

Disney have released awesome footage of their new Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge theme park and it looks epic.

This is Favreau's latest project in Disney's expansive empire. He kickstarted the MCU with Iron Man and has since directed Iron Man 2, The Jungle Book and is now working on The Jungle Book 2.

He also directed and produced Disney's The Jungle Book and is now in production on Disneys highly anticipated reimagined The Lion King which is slated for a 2019 release.

The Disney service is planned to launch in 2019, but no release date was given for the Favreau drama series.
