Fortnite Battle Royale officially coming to iOS and Android

Fortnite Battle Royale officially coming to iOS and Android

It's no surprise that Epic would want the game on mobile, but what's most surprising is that the iOS (and later, Android) version will support crossplay with PC.

It's not a weird conversion, or downsized experience either.

"Same gameplay, same map, same content, same weekly updates", Epic said in a forum post about Fortnite: Battle Royale's mobile edition. PlayStation 4, PC, Mac, iOS, and Android players can use the same account on multiple devices and pick up their character progression where they left off. This will be a pretty big deal as players from the aforementioned platforms can finally play together.

Epic Games has also indicated that this will involve crossplay, however, it appears to be limited to PlayStation 4, PC, Mac, iOS and eventually Android.

Starting this Monday, iOS users will be able to sign up for the Invite Event of Fornite Battle Royale. The title recently became the most-watched and most-streamed game on Twitch, with double the amount of PUBG's viewers on the platform. No such luck for XBox One, but that's likely something to do with the business dealings between the console owners. But Epic Games had a surprise for everyone on Thursday. Support for Android platers will follow in the next few months, though no exact window is announced. Console quality graphics and action.

All things considered, Epic Games appears to be going all-in on Fortnite Battle Royale, as the mobile market will undoubtedly allow the company to generate a huge sum of revenue from the game's free-to-play mode. "Play when you want, where you want".

Email invites will start rolling out "soon thereafter" but no official date has been shared just yet.

A select number of registrants will be invited to play the game soon after, and additional invites (featuring a download link to the App Store), will be sent out regularly over the coming months. If you don't receive an invite right away, don't worry.

On Monday US time, players get to sign up for an invite-only test run.
