Dawood's aide Farooq Takla arrested by CBI

In a big shot in the arm for the investigating agencies here, an aide of underworld don and 1993 Mumbai serial blasts prime accused Dawood Ibrahim has been brought back to India today. He was born in Mumbai on February 17, 1961.

He was arrested at the Delhi airport and will be produced before a designated court later on Thursday, a CBI spokesperson said.

Takla, 57, against whom the INTERPOL had issued a red corner notice in 1995, was tracked to Dubai, where he was believed to be holed up and was later extradited to India to face the law.

Mohamed Farooq alias Takla is now being interrogated by the CBI.

Farooq will be produced before a court in Mumabi for his alleged involvement in the 1993 serial blasts in Mumbai.

The Dawood aide had fled the country after he was grilled by the CBI in connection with the 1993 blasts.

Earlier this week, criminal lawyer Shyam Keswani said Dawood himself was "keen to return to India" + but with certain preconditions, which were not acceptable to the Indian government. More than 250 people were killed, 713 injured and property to the tune of Rs 26 crore was damaged.
