3 rental car companies cancel discounts for NRA members

The National Rifle Association (NRA) has spoken out over the #BoycottNRA movement which has now seen more than 20 brands cut ties with the association, with Amazon, Facebook and FedEx under pressure to follow suit.

"Customer feedback has caused us to review our relationship with the NRA", the bank said in a statement posted on Twitter. Previous companies to do so include MetLife, Symantec and rental auto companies Hertz, Budget, Avis and Enterprise.

Those included MetLife Insurance, the Avis Budget Group, home security firm Simplisafe, two moving brands - Allied Van Lines and northAmerican Van Lines- and Symantec Corp which had offered discounts for its LifeLock identity theft product.

The boycott movement is not just about image.

The NRA membership benefits page points out "access to hundreds of dollars in savings" as a reason to join the organization.

The controversial decisions now face backlash from members of the NRA, who are also active in voicing their discontent on Twitter.

It has now spread across multiple industries and affected some of the world's largest corporations.

The protest organizers argue that NRAtv and NRA discount programs give money to the gun-rights group and foster gun violence in the United States.

Wyndham Hotels and Best Western have also announced similar actions. The group has not commented on companies cutting ties.

Werner said that he was impressed with the speed of the boycott effort. He threatened to use his position to derail the $38 million-per-year sales tax exemption on jet fuel that would primarily benefit Delta Air Lines, calling it an attack on conservatives.
