Sandip Lamichhane to play for Delhi Daredevils in IPL

Lamichhane was bought by Delhi Daredevils, coached by Ricky Ponting, for his base price of Rs. 20 lakh.

He has become the first Nepali cricketer to be picked up by an IPL team for the cash-rich annual tournament.

Sandeep Lamichhane became Nepal's first cricketer to get the IPL contract as Delhi Daredevils bought him at the players auction in Bangalore today. "17-year-old sensation with a knack for picking up wickets, @IamSandeep25 will be vying to do his country proud come the Vivo IPL season!" the club confirmed in an official tweet.

Later that year, while taking part in the Hong Kong T20 Blitz, he made a deep impression on former Australia captain Michael Clarke, who invited the bowler to train under him and play grade cricket in Sydney.

Sandeep said he was happy to be added to the Delhi squad for IPL 2018.

"The first Nepali player in the history of the Vivo IPL!" Cheer him on and enjoy the journey with him. It will be a great honour to be associated with the IPL. "And, to be the first Nepal player to represent in India is an incredible feeling", he added.

This leg-spinner had a fantastic performance in the 2016 Under-19 World Cup, which helped Nepal to stay at the eighth position.
