Klopp: Liverpool will not sign Coutinho replacement

The hope will be that it's a bluff. Long-term we will do a lot (in the transfer window).

Coutinho joined Barcelona for £142 million earlier in the month, and the club's decision to allow him to leave was criticised by many. "It's about using our own opportunities, tools, players, tactics, all that stuff".

Could it be that Liverpool made their move to sign Van Dijk once they chose to sell Coutinho to Barcelona? At the start of the season, Liverpool looked as strong and deep as they had in years, but to go with two January sales there are now serious injury concerns surrounding Jordan Henderson and Adam Lallana both looking as though they can't be counted on to stay healthy. Lallana, though, has played just 152 league minutes this season-and having just returned, now he's out injured again.

The Anfield club will be eager to have Lallana back in time for the weekend when they take on fifth-placed Spurs in a battle to remain in the top-four.

Klopp, though, appears to believe otherwise.

Liverpool FC are now in fourth place in the Premier League table as they chase Champions League qualification for the second season running under their German manager.

It is hard to imagine that this book balancing accountancy exercise is what Klopp signed up for when he agreed to end his sabbatical from the game to become Liverpool manager, but now he finds himself making excuses for his caution of his paymasters.
