Nikki Haley Announces Massive UN Budget Cut After Jerusalem Vote

However, the resolution was non-binding hence the victory by anti-Trump nations was merely symbolic. Without exception, President Trump stood up against the incessant pressure by other countries against the United States.

To thank the 65 countries that did not support a resolution condemning President Donald Trump's position on Jerusalem, the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley invited her counterparts from those states to a festive reception. Nine countries voted against the resolution, including Israel, the United States, Guatemala, Honduras and Togo. USA was earlier also humiliated in United Nations Security Council, where 14 members voted against the move hiving off the U.S. that vetoed a similar resolution.

"Let them vote against us. We're not going to be taken advantage of any longer".

"The cuts demonstrate that the U.N.is capable of tightening its belt to reflect budget constraints in donor capitals, including the U.S." he added".

Last week, the United Nations condemned in a vote Trump's decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel. Yes, the superpower can't possibly declare all the 128 countries the enemy of America.

"At the United Nations, we're constantly asked to do more and give more - in the past we have".

In what appears to be his first retaliation after being embarrassed by the world body, Trump has a surprising Christmas gift to the United Nations.

"What she [Haley] did yesterday is just an embarrassment to the United States", Scarborough said.

An overwhelming majority of 128 states, including New Zealand, voted last week to condemn the USA over its controversial decision.

Let's be honest: You loved it last week as you watched Nikki Haley lay the smack to the United Nations for its ridiculous resolution against our recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital, and you really loved the implied threat to make the United Nations pay when it was time for the U.S.to cut the check for its 2018 contribution to the UN's operations.

The US is furthermore seeking a US$250 million cut to the UN budget for 2018-19, on top of US$200 million in savings already proposed by UN Secretary-General Guterres. That's not insignificant - a 5.3% cut in real terms to the USA federal budget would remove $217 billion in spending - but it's not a crippling blow either.

These budget cuts may not be the end for the United Nations under Trump's administration. The U.S.in fact is buying immunity for Israel and states like it by paying the United Nations such lip service.

On Sunday, the Trump administration announced that its budget for the United Nations had been shaved by at least $285 million, a move that some critics say will affect the US' role in worldwide matters. "We don't care", the president said. So what if it's true?

The UN's operating budget for the biennium ending now was $5.4 billion, approved exactly two years previous to this announcement. The UN voting came after Trump threatened to cut financial aid to those who backed the UN resolution.
