The district said its six campuses are closing because so many kids and staffers had come down with the flu. On average, the absentee rate is three percent, but Tuesday that rate increased to 14 percent in the district. Out of the 194 absences at the district's elementary and middle school, 141 were either confirmed flu or flu-like symptoms. The district offered flu vaccines at nearly every one of its campuses before the winter break. "If you or your child have a cough, sore throat, fever or body aches, please stay at home and try to limit contact with other family members or anyone outside of your home". The district says that classes will not be held on Thursday and Friday in order to disinfect campus facilities and to give students and teachers time to get better. "Some of our nurses have been reporting influenza like illnesses".
