Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 may launch with Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 SoC

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 may launch with Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 SoC

Xiaomi is said to be internally testing the Redmi Note 5, and plans on launching it sometime in Q2 2018, MyDrivers reports (via MySmartPrice). Most probably, this will not be the official price tag of the smartphone. However, the Snapdragon 632 is expected to retain the Qualcomm Spectra 160 ISP, which offers better optimization for dual-camera setups than the Snapdragon 625. Xiaomi's forum moderator suggested that the Redmi 5 Plus replaced the Redmi Note 5, at least based on the release timeframe, but if this new rumor is to be believed, the Redmi Note 5 is coming, and it will be announced in the second quarter of this year. So, one may consider the upcoming Redmi 5 Plus as the successor of Redmi Note 4.

According to MySmartPrice, the launch of the smartphone has been slightly delayed as Xiaomi is waiting for Qualcomm to release the octa-core Snapdragon 632 SoC, a minor downgrade over the Snapdragon 636 chipset that was announced in October a year ago. The Snapdragon 632 will, allegedly, be less powerful than the Snapdragon 636, as it will sport lower clock speed, but it seems like it will be identical to the Snapdragon 636 in every other way. This octa-core processor is a slightly downgraded version of the Snapdragon 636 chipset that was launched in October 2016. The phone might come in two RAM+storage variants of 3GB+32 GB and 4GB+64GB, both variants will support MicroSD card with expandable storage up to 128GB.

In terms of rumoured specifications, the device would feature a 5.9-inch Full HD IPS LCD display with a 2160x1080 pixels resolution.

However, an MIUI forum super moderator had recently claimed that Xiaomi has made a decision to discontinue the Mi Note series and the Redmi 5 Plus can be considered as the successor of Redmi Note 4.
