SNL White House Christmas Cold Open

SNL White House Christmas Cold Open

The parade of spirits is interrupted by a Melania Trump character, who implores her husband to return to the Christmas party and check out her decorations: "It's a handsome, festive hallway of dead branches and mysterious shadows".

"I got fired because I listened to you", SNL's portrayal of Bush said.

Flynn, played by "SNL" castmember Mikey Day, tells Baldwin's Trump "it's time to come clean for the good of the country", before Trump is visited by the ghosts of past, present and future.

"You will be visited by three of them, here they are now", Flynn said. Trump lamented that he wished someone had told him not to hire Flynn, but Flynn said that Barack Obama told him exactly that.

The ghost of Christmas past is Billy Bush, played by Alex Moffat who appears and makes reference to the 2005 Access Hollywood tape that saw Bush dismissed from the Today Show in 2016.

"Yes", smirked Putin. "I'm ghost".

He pointed to a tweet on the president's account in which he appeared to say 'I had to fire General Flynn because he lied to the Vice President and the Federal Bureau of Investigation'.

Trump drove him away, but not before Bush quipped, "If you worked at NBC right now, you'd be fired and out of money". "And frankly, I'm looking pretty good in the NBC news division" - a roundabout dig at Matt Lauer (the episode later featured overt jokes about the former Today show host ousted this week over sexual misconduct allegations).

"We put a lot of work into you", Putin says.

Next, Beck Bennett returned as Russian President Vladimir Putin, saying, "Donald you can't hide from me, I see and hear everything you do". At first, though, Trump think Steve Bannon is under the cloak.

It was Kate McKinnon's Clinton as the ghost of Christmas future.

In the end, Cecily Strong as Melania Trump comes to Baldwin's Trump rescue and wakes him up from the nightmare.

"You have given me the greatest Christmas gift of all: sexual gratification in the form of your slow demise", McKinnon's Clinton told Trump. "You have no idea how long I've wanted to say this, 'lock him up!'"
