Beginning in 2018 however, Lamborghini will be racing an upgraded version of their race auto called the Huracan Super Trofeo EVO, which looks even more aggressive compared to its predecessor.

According to Lamborghini, the revised aerodynamic kit comes after the Italian marque was looking to maintain the Super Trofeo's high-downforce, but "achieve higher overall aerodynamic efficiency and so less resistance to forward travel with improved stability".

Meanwhile, the matte-grey and yellow exterior finish was specifically created to commemorate Lamborghini's new partnership with Roger Dubuis, a Swiss watchmaking company. Besides the front splitter, flat floor and rear diffuser, most of the body has been redesigned. With drag reduced by 8%, lap times are set to be faster on the Evo.

The new body kit was developed by the team of motorsport engineers at Automobili Lamborghini, working in partnership with Dallara Engineering and with Lamborghini Centro Stile.

However, the company - now owned by the Volkswagen Group - fields its entry-level Huracan supercar in both the one-make Super Trefeo racing series and the Blancpain GT championship.

The race vehicle is powered by a naturally-aspirated, 620hp, 5.2-litre V10 engine that sends power to the rear wheels via a six-speed sequential transmission that helps to achieve an electronically limited top speed of 280kph.

Its recent racing efforts have spawned the track-focused Huracan Performante, while Auto Express says a hardcore version of the V2-engined Lamborghini Aventador has been spotted testing. The engine is coupled to a six gear sequential gearbox made by X-Trac and sends power to the rear wheels alone.

The list price of the new Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo Evo is 235,000 euros (including tax) in Europe and $295,000 in America.
